The young people gathered with the artists and looked at all the resource material and reflected on the visits and online research to plan the artwork for the exhibition.

One of the key thems to come out of the whole experince was the dramtic way that the roles of woman changed during this time.

We mind mapped the  roles of the family in this time and they theyrelated to each other and the local community. It was decide to create two large pieces of artwork that focussed on the massive change in the way woman interacted with the communty and contributed to the war effort.

We took the visual aspects of the Staniforth cartoons and the beautiful visual style of Brangwyn's posters. We then brought this into a contemporary style by using modern materials such as Perspex and graffiti pens and printing onto Vellum sheets.

This combination of different media provided further opportunity to pass on new skills and techniques to the young people.

The final pieces consisted of:

1 - 6x2 ft  - Woman Of Home

2 - 6x2 ft - Woman Of trousers

3 - 4x2 ft - Children Of War - Boy

4 - 4x2 ft - Children Of war - Girl

5 - 4x2 ft - Ordinary Heroes

All the young people thoroughly enjoyed the process and were very proud of the work they had achieved.

The exhibtion also featured artifacts created by the Healthy, wealthy and Wise group along with genuine artifacts to show and display.

The exhibtion was well attended and everyone was impressed by all the hard work that had gone into the project an just how wonderful the final artwork looked. There was also a great community feel of older and younger members of the community sharing this experince together and learning from each other. The older members of the community delighted the gathering with spontaineous choruses of songs from WW1 as they sang along to some recordings of the period.

Glamorgan Archives expressed a very keen interest to display the work of the young people for the 'Art tells The Story Of WW1'. Michealston school and other communtiy groups were also very keen to have the exhibition and therfore a small tour of venues will be created.
