Glamorgan Archives

The group had two separate visits to the Glamorgan Archives. The first visit Rhian gave us a brilliant overview of WW1 and the impact it had on the everyday population. We were then able to explore the archive artefacts that were on display. These were fascinating and we were able to handle them and examine them in great detail.

The artefacts included:

Local newspaper clippings - School log books - Nurses diaries - Soldiers letters -Photographs - Postcards – Maps.

On the second visit we were joined by a few members of the Healthy, Wealthy and Wise group of over 50's.

They were able to share with us some wonderful stories of their personal history and stories told to them by their family about experiences of WW1. They also brought with them personal artifacts from WW1 to share with the group.

The young people were able to revisit the artefacts alongside the volunteers who were able to bring the documents and photos to life with their stories.

This was a great afternoon and fully fuelled our young people onto their next stage, which was to create the artwork for the project.

Archifau Morgannwg

Ymwelodd y grŵp ag Archifau Morgannwg ddwywaith. Yn ystod yr ymweliad cyntaf rhoddodd Rhian drosolwg gwych i ni o’r Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf a’r effaith a gafodd ar y boblogaeth o ddydd i ddydd. Wedyn cawsom y cyfle i archwilio arteffactau perthnasol yr archif. Roedd y rhain yn rhyfeddol ac roeddem yn medru gafael ynddyn nhw a’u harchwilio’n fanwl iawn.

Roedd yr arteffactau’n cynnwys:

Toriadau o bapurau newydd lleol - llyfrau log ysgolion - dyddiaduron Nyrsys - llythyrau Milwyr - Ffotograffau - Cardiau Post - Mapiau.

Ar yr ail ymweliad ymunodd rhai o aelodau’r grŵp Iach, Cyfoethog a Doeth â ni, sef pobl dros 50 mlwydd oed.

Roeddent yn medru rhannu rhai storïau gwych am eu hanes personol a storïau a ddywedwyd wrthynt gan eu teuluoedd am eu profiadau yn ystod y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf.

Cafodd y bobl ifanc gyfle i ailymweld â’r arteffactau ochr yn ochr â’r gwirfoddolwyr, oedd yn medru dwyn dogfennau a ffotograffau yn fyw gyda’u storïau.

Roedd hwn yn brynhawn gwych a daniodd ddychymyg ein pobl ifanc a’u harwain ymlaen at y cyfnod nesaf, sef creu’r gwaith celf ar gyfer y prosiect.
