AUDIO AND VIDEO INTERVIEWS

The students were given letters to take home to invite family and friends into the school who were interested in sharing their experience of past school days. We gathered together a fantastic group of mixed ages to come in to the school for a group of older year 10 students to interview.

We felt it was a really good way to gather first hand real information, and would develop other skills along the way.  The group were keen to share some wonderfully interesting stories and information about when they went to school that gave a really good comparison to what students are used to now.  The main topics that came up were discipline, teaching styles, equipment and technology.

Students planned questions in advance to ask at the interviews.  We were really lucky that some of the interviewees were friends and from the same era, so they really got into a great flow when they started reminiscing, which made the interviews a real success.

The students learnt first hand information about school heritage from this part of the project. Many interesting topics were covered and pupils were surprised by how much discipline and technology has changed.  This led to some interesting discussion about which aspects of school have improved, declined or changed the most.  They also learnt how to conduct and film a basic interview and prepare questions.

Interviews were recorded on film and then watched by our year 9 group who were able to gather relevant information to use on the next stage of the project-creating the maps as a response to all the information gathered so far.
